Arab countries condemned the recent attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a World Food Programme (WFP) aid convoy, as well as on civilian and medical facilities, which over the past three days have resulted in dozens of deaths in the Kordofan region of southern Sudan.

These actions constitute a full-fledged war crime under international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on civilians and depriving them of their means of survival, said the statement from the Arab League, composed of 22 countries.

Meanwhile, Egypt addressed a drone attack on a hospital in South Kordofan that caused dozens of deaths and injuries, including medical personnel, denouncing such actions constitute an obstruction of relief work.

On that matter, the Saudi government denounced the RSF’s actions as “criminal” and “unjustifiable,” and Qatar emphasized “the urgent need to protect those operating in the humanitarian field and ensure that aid flows sustainably to those in need in the state” in Sudan.

According to local NGOs and Sudanese media, these attacks were carried out over the past three days using drones amid violent clashes between the RSF and the regular Sudanese Army for control of the strategic Kordofan region.

Adding to the international outcry, U.S. Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos denounced the assaults, declaring the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” for the destruction of U.S.-backed aid convoys.

A conflict that erupted in April 2023 has plunged Sudan into catastrophe, claiming an estimated 150,000 lives and driving more than thirteen million from their homes.
